Giving is an extremely important part of the Christian life – both because of what it does for others and what it does to us. God uses His people’s giving to provide relief for those in need and support to ministers of the gospel (Deuteronomy 15:11, 1 Corinthians 9:14). He also asks his people to give so that they would learn to trust not in money but in His provision (Malachi 3:6-12, Jeremiah 48:7, Matthew 5:19-24, etc.). Here at Risen Savior, we take collections not to store up treasures for ourselves, but to support the mission and work of Jesus Christ here in this community and throughout the world, as well as to point all our hearts toward Him as our true provision.
“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”
– 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
